design, detailing, material research, fabrication

anabond pavillion is a temporary exhibition pavillion for Indian adhesives brand Anabond. It is further research into bent materials following waving walls and anisotropia by Orproject. Using directionality of flexible plywood sheets, it applies the material into a exhibition pavillion with integrated furniture and display units. The components were sized and built in parts to be transported across India and be installed and re-assembled multiple times.

The stall consists of a front and a back wall. The front wall creates a window into the exhibition space and carries the brand's identity and logo, whilst the rear wall showcases the products. For the design of the stall the waving timber surfaces were placed in two different orientations: The surfaces of the front wall were extruded perpendicular to the wall in order to allow views into the space, while the surfaces of the back wall were extruded along the wall to create an opaque background for the display.

The surfaces were bent using laser cut holes as reference, which were then connected with screws, following the bending along the natural grain of the plywood sheets. The width of each piece was optimised to suit hand reachability, and the rear wall was discretised into three sub walls, that could be transported and assembled separately.

The stall was designed for a 9x9m space, and was exhibited at Coimbatore in 2018 and was re-assembled at New Delhi in 2019.
